Bird watching Tour

For an enthusiastic bird watcher, birds like Fowls, Pigeons, Parrots, Parakeets, Malkoha, Coucal, Owl, Owlet, Hornbill, Barbet, Magpie, Bulbul, Warbler, Babbler, Thrush, White-eye, Mynah, Starling, Flycatcher, Flower pecker, Pigeon, Barbet, Flameback, Woodshrike, Drongo and Swallow , etc. can be viewed in their natural habitat in the island of Sri Lanka, a tropical island in the Indian Ocean located 10 degrees north of the equator, where there are 68 subspecies and the percentage of endemic species is 11%. Further to this,  there are nearly 200 seasonal migratory birds that arrive from as far away as Siberia, Scandinavia and Western Europe, arriving around August/September and departing around April/May.

The main bird sanctuary, Kumana national park is recognized as one of the most important bird breeding grounds in Sri Lanka. In Bundala National Park,  flocks of flamingos, herons and cranes are regularly seen. Kalamatiya Bird Sanctuary, Sinharaja Rain Forest, Bodhinagala Reserve, Peaks Sanctuary, Kithulgala Reserve, Yala, Wilpattu, Udawalawa, Wasgamuwa, Minneriya and Horton Plains National Parks can be mentioned as other places where an enthusiastic bird watcher may visit in addition to numerous tanks, reservoirs, lagoons, marshes, lakes and rivers.

Our representative will receive you at the Colombo International Airport.

Arrival in Negombo after a drive of approximately 20 minutes.

Overnight is spent in Negombo.

Day 02

Breakfast at the hotel

Access to the nearby Sinharaja Rainforest from Kudawa Entrance – approximately 4 hours drive.

A birdwatching walk at a border village in the Sinharaja Rainforest.

Overnight stay at Inn at Sinharaja.

Day 03

Day 04

Horton Plains National Park Arrival at 5 a.m. – Approximately 1 ½ hours drive.

Early morning bird watching walk in Horton Plains National Park. (Breakfast will be provided during the trek)

Coming back out of the city – approximately 1 ½ hours drive.

An evening birding walk in Anawilundawa Wetlands, one of the two most important bird habitats in Sri Lanka.
